Brush Bronzewing

The Brush Bronzewing is a shy and reclusive species of ground-dwelling pigeon found in coastal areas and dense shrublands across Southern Australia. Males have a distinctive chestnut forehead and a dark stripe that runs through the eye, while females are a bit duller in colour.

Be careful to distinguish this spectacular pigeon from the just as impressive Common Bronzewing. Common Bronzewing are more numerous on the Mornington Peninsula and can be found in urban areas with dense tree coverage. The best places to see Brush Bronzewing include Devilbend Reservoir and Moorooduc Quarry, although they can be difficult to find.
