CRAIG BOASE
Craig has worked in the ecological management industry for almost 20 years, undertaking flora and fauna surveys, threatened species management, habitat restoration, and pest animal control. He also runs his own business, Wild Portraits, showcasing nature art and photography, book publications and science communication projects.
Birdwatching was one of Craig’s earliest obsessions, and as a young boy, he joined the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union (RAOU), now known as BirdLife Australia. At the age of 16, the RAOU asked Craig to produce a detailed pamphlet on the Birds of Geraldton and Environs, WA.
In 2019 Craig founded Wild Portraits.
With a particular passion for bird photography, Craig produces professional-quality images of not only birds but also other animals and plants. His work has been published on several conservation-based not-for-profit websites, in brochures, university textbooks, and a number of wildlife field guides. Most recently, he wrote and self-published his own field guide, Victoria’s Mallee Birds, which primarily features his own photographs.
Over the years, Craig has delivered guided tours and presentations to various nature groups and government organisations on topics including birds, reptiles, threatened species, and bird photography. He has also conducted photography workshops, where he shares his extensive experience.
