Mark Lethlean

Mark retired from a 35 year career in Veterinary Science on the Mornington Peninsula in 2014 and has been volunteering for Landcare, Parks Victoria and the BirdLife Beach-nesting bird Project ever since.

Being an avid birder for the last 25 years Mark moved into bird photography with the advent of digital photography. His passion is travelling to remote areas of Australia to photograph birds and has   photographed over 700 Australian species. 

Mark became a keen participant and monitor for the Beach-nesting bird (BNB) project in 2012 and have been president of the Friends of Hooded Plover Mornington Peninsula Inc. for the last 8 years. The Friends group that monitors and manages the 4 species of beach-nesting birds found on the Peninsula, namely, Hooded Plovers, Red-capped Plovers, Sooty Oystercatchers and very rarely Pied Oystercatchers, trying to ameliorate the threats of growing urbanisation on the Mornington Peninsula

Mark also participates in Shorebird surveys for BirdLife on the Barrier Islands in the Nooramunga Marine and Coastal Park, East Gippsland.
