Lynn Murdoch

Birding has always been a part of Lynn’s life since watching birds in her grandmother’s garden hedge at age 4. She has been a Birdlife Australia member, and keen bird watcher for at least forty years. She has recently accepted the role of Convener of BirdLife Mornington Peninsula branch

Lynn usually watches birds in Australia where she has travelled extensively. Older bird lists dating from the 1980s are pre citizen science data bases but they indicate a stark change in bird numbers in many locations over time.

Photography is a passion and is now a key part of her birding adventures, using photography to identify species, capturing interesting behaviour and the beauty of birds in different habitats.

Since retiring she is out bird watching weekly and contributes to the BirdLife Westernport surveys, Beach bird nesting program, and Birds on Farms projects as well as regular local surveys and local monthly surveys.  She has joined a number of bird specific small tours and visited key areas in Australia such as Cape York during the wet to see species migrating from New Guinea, Central Australia and Broome Bird Observatory for the beginning of the annual shorebird migration.

Lynn is keen about mentoring people in bird watching and is involved in a few local environmental organisations enhancing the links between habitat preservation and bird conservation.
