Pacific Gull

The Pacific Gull is a large gull species. Adults are distinguished by its massive yellow bill with a prominent red tip, with black upper wings and clean white body. Juvenile and immature birds are a deep dark brown that varies dependent on age.

The Pacific Gull is found in coastal areas right throughout the Mornington Peninsula and towers over the more common Silver Gull, which is the dominant ‘sea gull’ in Melbourne. Be careful around beaches facing Bass Strait, where the similarly large Kelp Gull presides. The black band present on the Pacific Gull’s tail is absent on the Kelp Gull. Additionally, the Kelp Gull has red tip on the lower part of the bill only, whilst Pacific Gull has a red tip across both the upper and lower parts.
