Penny Gillespie
From a child who was fascinated with birds, Penny has had a lifelong involvement with birds but did not become an avid birdwatcher until she spent four years living in South Africa 25 years ago. Since then, she has been a member of BirdLife Australia and was Treasurer of the local branch committee for 5 years at one point. She also continues to support the local branch leading walks on the Mornington Peninsula, representing the branch at local community events with our BirdLife information display.
Penny is one of the editors of “Where to find birds around Mornington Peninsula” and is a member of BirdLife Australia’s Birds on Farms survey team.
Penny has spent her career in land conservation and management and through BirdLife plans to continue this in her retirement. She believes that one of the pillars of bird conservation is community education and this Festival will provide education for everyone who attends.
